Visitors who come by the connection ferries Östern (from May to beginning of September) or Falkö (rest of the year), come to the Ferry pier on the south side of the island. Asemalaituri, the ”Station pier”, on the east side of the island, is also used by the researchers of the Archipelago Research Institute. The institute has projects i.e. on herring, Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) and mud crabs (Rhithropanopeus harrisii). The researchers use the pier when they collect samples etc. In order not to distrurbe the work of the researchers, private persons are not allowed to use the Station pier. The exception is the Doors open day, when visitors may use the piers of the institute.
